Ansbach is the capital of middle Franconia and is located about 25 miles west of Nürnberg,
Bavaria. In 748 AD a Benedictine Abbey was founded and a settlement called Onoldsbach
emerged nearby. The town now has about 50,000 residents and is built along the Rezat
river. It is adjacent to Katterbach Kaserne, home to the 4th Aviation Brigade of the 1st Infantry
Division.
