Hungarian invasion. Fortified by the emperor Henry I., Dinkelsbuhl obtained the position of a free imperial city
in 1351, which it retained till 1802, when it passed to Bavaria. The Deutsches Haus is considered by some to
be the most beautiful half-timbered building along the Romantic Road. Built in 1440, the house was extended
in 1660. The facade is a wonderful example of the late Renaissance style. The Church St. George is one of
the most magnificent churches in Southern Germany. Construction began in 1448 and was completed in
1499. You can climb the church tower and enjoy a birds eye view of the town. To this day, a night watchman
does his rounds through the center of the town.  Following him, is an excellent way to see Dinkelsbuhl.
